If you're thinking about working with me, you should probably know a little about how I work, so here's the way I think about designing spaces.

No matter what stage of a project I'm in, I hold 5 core pillars of design in my process: immersion, character, aesthetics, function, and being good to work with while we make it all happen.

Immersion

Audiences want to immerse themselves in a story, and believability is the key to making that happen. Space ships have to fly, homes have to feel lived in, and advertisements have to bring the product into the audience's world. My deep knowledge of historical and modern architecture, my background in the sciences, and my deep attention to detail all build believability and immersion in the spaces I design.

Character

Every image tells a story, whether we intend it to or not. Characters fill the spaces they inhabit both consciously and unconsciously with truths about them. So do cultures (real, historical, and fictional) and for brands in advertising. I strive to make sure the spaces we create tell intentional stories in line with the narrative's needs or corporate values we want to portray.

My choices for every set and every prop focus on telling the story we want to tell.

Aesthetics

This one os easy to explain. I make things look good... in collaboration with my colleagues, of course.

Function

All spaces have to accomplish certain things.

A set has to accommodate all the blocking required for the script and the requirements for lighting, camera, and crew. Stunt scenes have to be built safely. Live events need to be both easily accessed for the audience and fully functional for the event staff.

Every project also has a budget, labor schedules, delivery, shipping, and all kinds of logistics to keep in mind. Incorporating the knowledge and planning of these realities from the very initial stages ensures sets everyone up for success as we translate the designs from ideas to reality.

Being Good to Work With

Last on the list, but certainly not least, I strive to be pleasant while remaining productive. I always try to set my team and the the teams I work with up for success, both in the product we produce and in maintaining a positive work environment while we make it.

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Wade
